Grassroots Democracy

Letter to the Editor - Advocate Feb 5 2008
I have heard, with some amusement, the ‘plans’ for further development of our town by offering ‘tourist attraction mayors’, town name changes, and the like. However, the serious side of this is that a mayor needs to be prepared to work within the boundaries of true Town Council powers. Intergalactic imaginings and ‘pie in the sky’ schemes may be amusing and show a level of initiative, but they can be downright dangerous for the town’s integrity and stability.

Let’s start at the grass roots, which may not be particularly sexy, even slightly pedestrian, but we should remember that strength and growth come from solid foundations.
